The Seaweed Center provides female seaweed farmers with opportunities to improve their personal standard of living and develop economic activities that benefit the entire community. This is a socially responsible business and thriving Cooperative enterprise producing 100% organic locally sourced handmade beauty and spa products, soaps, massage oils, moisturizing creams and body scrubs.

Discover from the knowledgeable guide about the life cycle of seaweed and gain an insight into seaweed farming as the second biggest industry on the island of Zanzibar. Understand the hard work that encompasses a seaweed farmer’s daily life. Get the opportunity to meet the inspiring women from the Seaweed centre and view the entire production process from raw seaweed to finished beauty products. Visitors will get to try our delicious seaweed juice and cakes. Lastly you will get the opportunity to experience some of Zanzibar’s best beaches.

Visitors will start by visiting the beach to view the planting/ harvesting and collection sites, they will get the chance to plant some seaweed and gain knowledge and understanding of the seaweed industry and the day in life of seaweed farmer.
Thereafter return to the production facility where guest can relax with some seaweed juice and get the chance to meet the women and ask questions. Once rested guest will be introduced to the production facility, learn how to grind seaweed, make soap and other beauty products. The tour will finish at the seaweed centre shop where guests will get the opportunity to purchase some local, natural and handmade products.
