Masai Mara Explorer

Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve is a mosaic of Africa’s diverse wildlife. The Masai Mara is one of the few places left on earth where wildlife still lives comparatively undisturbed. This is Africa’s finest wildlife sanctuary. The northern tip of the Serengeti hosts a spectacular seasonal migration across the Mara. Apart from the seasonal migration, game viewing is excellent year round. Game includes: savanna elephant, Black Rhino, buffalo, plains zebra, hartebeest and the big cats; the rivers are home to hippo and crocodiles, 452 bird species, 53 of which are raptors. Nowhere else in Africa is wildlife more plentiful than in the Masai Mara, fabled for its great concentrations of gazelle and antelope and their natural predators – the big cats.

Today you leave the capital city of Kenya and travel north to Lake Naivasha where you spend the day at Hell’s Gate National Park.

The interesting name comes from the huge red-colored cliffs that form the entrance to the geothermal interior. This is the only National Park where you can go hiking and activities include game and bird watching. The park entry fees are included and one of the more popular optional activities is to go game viewing from a bicycle.

An alternative way to spend your afternoon is to take high-tea at Elsamere, the former home of Joy Adams, best known for her autobiographical novel, Born Free.

Travel to the famed Masai Mara Game Reserve today.

The Masai Mara Game Reserve is the Kenyan side of the Serengeti National Park (located in Tanzania). You will be entering this huge area of spectacular game viewing to photograph some of Africa’s most abundant wildlife. Famous for the annual migration of around 1.5 million wildebeest, the Masai Mara is also home to many other plains animals, including lions. In addition to what we hope will be a successful day’s game viewing, cultural interaction with Kenya’s native Masaai people will round off your experience.

Lake Nakuru National Park / Nairobi

Return to Nairobi today and enjoy a tour of the city.

The city of Nairobi was originally founded as a camp for the Mombasa-Uganda railway in 1899 and had since become the largest city in both Kenya and the East Africa region, with a population of between 3-4 million people. Nairobi is a cosmopolitan African-European city with many immigrants from former British colonies. The number of churches, mosques, temples and gurdwaras within the city bear testimony to its multiculturalism. Nairobi is well known as a prime tourist destination, but it does have several tourist attractions, the most well known being Nairobi National Park. The park contains many animals including lions and giraffes. Nairobi also has more species of birds than any other capital city in the world.
