Day 1
Arrival and transfer to Kumbali Lodge (D)

On arrival in Linongwe you will be met by your guide for a 30 minute transfer to a private lodge situated on a forest reserve and dairy farm where you can view spectacular birdlife, enjoy indigenous forest walks and visit a traditional cultural village and permaculture centre which offer additional interest.

Day 2
Mvuu Lodge (B/L/D)

After breakfast, you will be transferred back to Lilongwe Airport and connect to a 1 hour light aircraft transfer to Makanga Airstrip in Liwonde National Park. Here you will be met by lodge staff and transferred the short distance to Mvuu Lodge. Mvuu means “hippo” in the local Chichewa language and the name epitomises the large numbers of hippo pods that inhabit the nearby Shire River.

The lodge is located in Liwonde National Park which is Malawi’s premier wildlife destination. Named after Chief Liwonde who had championed its protection, the park harbours very diverse landscapes including swamps, deciduous woodlands, open grasslands, mopane and miombo woodlands as well as Palm savannah and numerous baobabs.

The central feature of the Park is the mighty Shire River which flows from North to South from Lake Malawi to the Zambezi River in Mozambique.

Day 3

Free to enjoy activities at the lodge- day and night game drives, boat safaris on the Shire River, guided walks, game drives in the ESOM rhino sanctuary, local tours to Nanthomba school and bike rides to Njobvu village.

Day 4

Free to enjoy activities at the lodge- day and night game drives, boat safaris on the Shire River, guided walks, game drives in the ESOM rhino sanctuary, local tours to Nanthomba school and bike rides to Njobvu village.

Day 5
Mumbo Island Camp (B/L/D)

After breakfast, you will be transferred by light aircraft (30 minutes) to Monkey Bay Airstrip and then connect to a 1 hour road transfer to the Kayak Africa Base Camp in Cape Maclear. From here you can choose to either kayak to Mumbo Island or take a 45 minute boat transfer. The camp is tucked away on the rocks and beaches of a serene bay and crystal-clear waters.

Day 6

Free to explore and enjoy the leisure based activities at Mumbo Island Camp. Kayaking, snorkelling, scuba diving, boat rides, scenic walks and birding are all available.

Day 8
Chelinda Lodge (B/L/D)

After breakfast and a return boat and road transfer to Monkey Bay Airstrip, you will connect to a 1-2 hour light aircraft transfer to Chelinda Lodge in Nyika National Park.

Located in Nyika National Park, the lodge boasts an incredible mixture of scenery and landscapes – pristine brachystegia woodland, mature mountain forest patches,crystal clear running streams and miles and miles of open rolling grassland.

Activities available range from day and night game drives to guided walks and mountain biking expeditions across the plateau.

Birding and fly fishing are also available.

Nkwichi Lodge (B/L/D)

Today you will be transferred by light aircraft to Likoma (1 hour). On arrival on Likoma Island, you will be met by Lodge staff. You will have to get an exit stamp in your passport at Immigration on Likoma before leaving the island – your guide will help you with this. It is then a crossing of about 35 minutes to the town of Cobue where you will get stamped into Mozambique before continuing up the uninhabited coastline to Nkwichi Lodge (30 minutes). Please note that a Mozambique visa is required and we recommend that this is obtained prior to travel.

Day 13
Nkwichi Lodge (B/L/D)

Free to enjoy activities at the lodge which include canoeing on the lake or local rivers, guided bush walks and trekking, looking for birds and wildlife, snorkelling, kite flying, surfing and visits to local community projects.

Departure (B)

After breakfast, you will be transferred by boat back to Likoma Island and connect to a 1 hour light aircraft transfer to Lilongwe,ensuring that you arrive at the airport in time for your onward international flight connections.
