Ancient Civilization, Mountains & Rivers

China almost defies description. It straddles so many worlds – ancient and modern, rural and urban, ethnic and international. It’s 1.4 billion people speaking in a babble of languages, eating a potpourri of cuisines and rushing toward the future as if to make up for the lost centuries.
Yet those isolated ages have produced some of the most spectacular artifacts on earth – The Great Wall, the statues of the Terracotta Army and the Forbidden City. That same creative drive is evidenced today in the fantastical skyscrapers of the Pudong section in Shanghai.
Here is the visual, sensory, artistic and culinary onslaught you’ll embrace in this infinitely faceted Middle Kingdom – a great civilization that’s constantly evolving. China’s people are curious and friendly, gladly showing you the way around to a museum or favorite noodle shop. If you take the time, the massive throngs easily give way to individual faces, smiles, and conversations.
But the Chinese countryside is no less seductive with its deep colors and startling variety. Take a cruise along the Yangtze with its emerald waters, along richly forested shores. Hike the commanding Great Wall over mountains and valleys. Wander in a dream amongst the Yunhe Rice Terraces in the southeast, their 700 layers of terraces impossible to believe.
Whether you’re a city goer, trekker, explorer or foodie, you’ll find an endless horizon of possibilities from which to sample. But don’t worry if you can’t get your arms completely around China during one visit. This vast, limitless empire has stood for millennia and will be ready to welcome you upon your return.
Hong Kong is China on steroids. Its skyscraping harbor, overflowing cuisine, humming alleyways and non-stop markets all echo the Chinese ethos but with a 100 years’ head start. You may have to devour six meals a day just to keep pace with the culinary repertoire of Szechuan, Japanese, French and street food that won’t cease in this food-loving paradise.
But Hong Kong has some surprises that you may not expect. You wouldn’t know it looking at most brochures but 70% of Hong Kong is parkland, mountains, villages, and islands. Here you can work off the glorious gluttony of the city experience by hiking, exploring or even kayaking.
Still, Hong Kong is Chinese to its roots with its shared history and cultural connections with the mainland. You’ll see it in the art on the streets, the tai chi in the parks or a Chinese opera performed in a local theater. Visit China and then finish off in Hong Kong for dessert.

Casa Corcovado Jungle Lodge, tucked away in the trees and cooled by the Pacific Ocean, is a 170-acre private reserve comprising beach and rainforest on the borders of Corcovado National Park.
The reserve was set up by an American naturalist who first came to live in the Osa over thirty-five years ago, and who has been working to conserve and protect the area ever since. Corcovado National Park is one of the world’s last true wildernesses. There are no roads to the Jungle Lodge, and the only access is by boat. Your adventure begins at our private dock and reception center, ‘La Hacienda’, in the sleepy town of Sierpe. Here you will be met by the captain and your guide for the 90-minute boat ride. The journey takes you through the largest mangrove wetlands system on Central America’s Pacific coast where you’ll have a good chance of spotting monkeys, crocodiles and plenty of birds. As we pass through the river mouth and follow the coast, there’s a chance of seeing dolphins, and even whales. Refreshments are served during the trip, and lunch, as well as a complimentary cocktail, will be waiting for you at the lodge.
Built in harmony with nature, Casa Corcovado Jungle Lodge provides the ideal base for your in-depth rainforest experience.

Welcome to qualia – A world class luxury resort in the Whitsundays on the Edge of the Great Barrier Reef. qualia is a private world of sensory perfection on Hamilton Island. “qualia” (pronounced “kwah-leea”) is from a Latin derivative used predominantly by philosophers to refer to a collection of deeper sensory experiences. It is a term that is difficult to define, but perfectly corresponds to the true essence of our complex. It is about the effect it has on each individual who experiences it. The beautiful sea breeze of the Coral Sea, the sound of water running over the pebble beach, the crunch of leaves, the distinctive smell of eucalyptus trees and the taste sensations created by their world-class chefs.
Qualia sits sensitively within its 30 acres of tropical garden gardens in the far north of Hamilton Island. Accessible by direct flights from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Cairns, guests are offered the positively indulgent choice of 60 individual pavilions. Each pavilion has been situated with the least possible intervention and impact on its surroundings and consists of largely natural materials such as roughly carved stone walls and pine hoop. Each of the beautiful pavilions offers sea or sea views and bushes with your choice of a private swimming pool or impressive terrace.
Windward Pavilion: The north-facing Windward Pavilions offer expansive, postcard views of the Coral Sea and Whitsundays. The beautifully appointed pavilions feature a living room, separate bedroom with a king bed or split twins, en-suite and offer the added indulgence of a private plunge pool.
Your stay includes: A la carte breakfast at the Long Pavilion restaurant daily, VIP return Hamilton Island Airport/Marina to qualia transfers, Non-alcoholic beverages at qualia (bottled beverages, water, tea & coffee), VIP chauffeur service around Hamilton Island and use of non-motorized water-craft.

Bursting with a fascinating history, The Savoy Hotel on Little Collins has been home to some world-famous guests and celebrities. Many of Australia’s best started their careers on its very doorstep.
From the moment you step inside, you will be captivated by the hotel’s charm and inspired by its stories. Built in 1866, the building is well into its second century. Authentically styled, blending contemporary design with its Art Deco origins, the hotel is captivating in its individual character and charm. The sophisticated lobby creates an inviting sense of arrival with its warm timbers, mirror and brass elements complemented by luxurious soft furnishings.
Nestled in dense forest with each room, the dining room, lounge, and bar area built on raised decks overlooking the Lango bai, and they are constructed from natural materials such as locally woven raffia palm panels. A star deck and fire pit are also raised and overlook the bai for after-dinner relaxation and star-gazing. The bai holds a magnetic attraction for vast flocks of African green pigeons and African grey parrots, as well as for herds of forest buffalo by day and forest elephants by night.
Lango’s strategic location in the south-central part of Odzala allows easy access to a variety of converging habitats. A real highlight of your stay at Lango is the change to explore the Lekoli and Mambili Rivers by motorboat, traditional pirogue, or even kayak. Lango is also one of the few places in Africa where you can safely explore streams and marshes on foot – a truly immersive experience!
Mboko’s 12 guest rooms extend along the banks of a free-flowing tributary of the Lekoli River. Situated in an area of lush meadow-like savannah, frequented by forest buffalo, forest elephant, and spotted hyena, Mboko gives a sense of the scale of Odzala. While it also allows you to focus on some of the smaller details: flowers and butterflies (depending on the season) can be seen in profusion. Mboko Camp offers visitors breath-taking views of the transition between the tropical rainforest and grassland savannah, where hundreds of towering termite mounds help create an otherworldly experience.
Mboko provides you with spectacular star-viewing opportunities before you fall asleep, listening to the sounds from the Congo River. The camp also offers access to nearby villages on the fringes of the Park, where you can meet and interact with local people. Each cabin has a deck with lounge chairs on which you can rest and listen to the tranquility of the river babbling past you.
Constructed with natural material and traditional techniques, Ngaga Camp is a charming location consisting of six rooms that rests in a valley within the home ranges of several groups of western lowland gorillas, two of which are habituated.
Ngaga is truly gorilla central. A focal point for world-class research, as well as unforgettable primate encounters, Ngaga Camp’s unique design, evokes the fun and mystery of a childhood treehouse. You will enjoy the elevated guest rooms and wraparound walkways that allow you to peer directly into the forest canopy.
