Luxury Cruise – Delfin II
Beginning your tour you will arrive in Iquitos and then be transported to Nauta where you will board your cruise ship. Nauta is the oldest city in the department of Loreto and lies between Iquitos and the Maranon River, where the cruise ship will be waiting for you. It will become clear that you are traveling where few have gone before. In fact, you are part of a select group of seasoned world travelers who will visit remote Pacaya Samiria Reserve, five million acres of protected, flooded forest, roughly the size of a small Central American country. A world of flora and fauna awaits you. An early morning rising on your tour is recommended because it is the ideal times for nature observation.
During the months of Dec-May, considered the rainy season, there will be a tour of the Belluda Stream. From the skiff you will explore the black water stream and learn about the rainforest while spotting parrots, macaws, and monkeys, such as the monk Saki monkey with its gray and black body, naked face and long shaggy tail. There is a monkey known as the saddle-back tamarin monkey, which you may also see but do not be fooled by their high chirping notes as it can be easily confused with the sound of a flock of birds. There are many different types of wildlife that can be seen in this exploration to include: monkeys, butterflies, hawks, and various types of birds. During the months of Jun-Nov, considered the dry season, a hike to the community of Yanallpa is done in place of the Belluda Stream exploration. This is a location where one can explore two different kind of forest, the flooded forests and terra firm forests. Many different types of wildlife can be viewed on this hike, including a large amount of different birds. Ending your hike will be a canoe ride on a lagoon filled with endangered and unique fresh water fish. Later, at El Dorado River, experience an unforgettable encounter with gray and pink river dolphins. On this river there is an abundance of wildlife and nature.
The Pacaya River, the very heart of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, is Peru’s largest protected area with a mean annual rainfall of nearly 3,000mm, by far the largest protected wetland reserve in the world. This location is bound to be one of the most beautiful places you have ever visited, with its lakes, palm swamps and streams. Again, early rising rewards with its abundance of wildlife viewings. While traveling through the Pacaya River, discover all different types of species. Commencing your tour on the Pacaya River is the Atun Poza expedition. During the rainy season this tour will be experienced by skiff and during dry season will be a hiking experience. All sorts of different wildlife can be view on this expedition.
