The rolling mountains are sculptured with tightly packed terraces on the precipitous slopes, extending for hundreds of miles. Songtsam Lodge Tacheng is located among QIBIE village and HADA village while those two villages sit on a bench terrace on the northern bank of the LAPU river’s valley. This area, richly endowed by nature, is a famous land of plenty in the northwest of Yunnan province. What’s more, this area, with abundant products, is rich in fruits and vegetables all year round. Natural conditions make Tacheng a more natural and seasonal diet. Specifically, meals of Songtsam Lodge Tacheng are cooked by local chefs, while all food ingredients are planted in the lodge’s vegetable garden or surrounding villages. In general, Songtsam Lodge Tacheng’s meals are healthy home-made style which maximizes the original flavor of ingredients.

Songtsam Lodge Shangri-la is located in XIAOJIEZI village, a Tibetan village near Songzanlin Monastery. The altitude here is 3280 meters. The land is flat, and the views are idyllic. Villagers grow barley, buckwheat, potatoes, turnips, etc. They mainly eat high-calorie-meat and cereals such as Tibetan pig, beef and mutton, Zanba, buckwheat cookies and buttered tea. Tricholoma matsutake and various wild mushrooms grow in the surrounding mountains and forests during the rainy season, which also adds a lot to the meal. By making new tastes with traditional ingredients, dishes are based on improved Tibetan meals here.

Bailey’s Banda is still part of the camp but enjoys its privacy and is the perfect hideaway for those who want to appreciate the bush without the ‘camaraderie’ of staying in a ‘house party-style’ cap like Beho Beho. With two very spacious Beho Beho style en suite bedrooms both with king-sized beds and the possibility to use the Zanzibar divan bed to create a twin bedded room, Bailey’s Banda is ideal for honeymooners, friends traveling together or families (but still not really suitable for young children and children under twelve years are not able to walk in the bush). The open-plan and open-sided main areas of the banda have many combinations of dining and relaxing spaces, together with a plunge pool and a sunbathing/game viewing deck. The accent is on privacy and enjoying the quality ‘private time’ that is sometimes hard to find on a safari, with a dedicated staff, its own kitchen (complete with a chef) and an exclusive safari vehicle. Game activities are tailor-made to suit guests’ desires and are guided and guarded by some of the most qualified guides in East Africa.

The Treehouse – Just for two people, The Treehouse is an optional extra available to all guests who stay for a minimum of four nights at Beho Beho. The Treehouse experience starts in mid afternoon when guests leave the camp on foot, accompanied by one of our armed guides, and walk for approximately two hours through the splendid isolation of the Selous wilderness until they arrive at their home for the night – The Treehouse. No ordinary ‘sleep out’, this tree house is perched alongside and within a giant ancient leadwood tree overlooking a dry river bed and comes with a proper double bed swathed in mosquito netting, and an en-suite bathroom complete with a flushing toilet. There is a choice of either sleeping under the stars or under the cover of a canvas pavilion – the bed comes complete with wheels. Guests will be welcomed with cocktails before being able to take a hot shower on arrival, and as dusk turns to dark will make their way to a clearing for a campfire dinner under the stars entertained and protected by their safari guide. Early morning tea is served before guests head off on foot to see the animals at their most prolific, returning for breakfast under a shaded tree where a suitably attired chef cooks up a gourmet breakfast to satisfy the heartiest appetite. The intrepid guests will complete the experience by either walking or game driving back to camp by safari vehicle to resume the rest of their Beho Beho safari itinerary.
