Ecuador

Ecuador packs so much exploration into its small borders – from colonial cities to the jungles of the Amazon, from the long spine of the Andes range to the spectacular Galapagos Islands. Where to begin?

Let’s start your journey at the historic cities of Quito and Cuenca. You’ll walk along cobblestone streets to take in 250-year-old picturesque mansions and monasteries, reminders of when the Spanish conquered and settled in this beautiful country.

Exploring the Andes is a journey into another time. Throughout this region, you’ll discover dozens of country villages set in fertile fields. The towering mountains are a massive backdrop to everyday life here. This is truly stunning country for those who enjoy trekking.

You may not imagine that Ecuador and the Amazon appear on the same map, but the rich, rainforest makes up about a third of the country! There’s plenty of wildlife in these jungle tracts, but even more surprising are the indigenous people living in this untouched land.

The Huaoranis are one of the last groups to have emerged into western awareness. A visit with these friendly people and time spent learning how they live and survive in this harsh environment will be an experience that will not soon leave your thoughts.

But Ecuador may be best known for its spectacular marine wildlife. Throughout the world, the Galapagos are famed as the rugged, volcanic islands where one can paddle right up to its isolated animals. Tortoises, sea lions, iguanas and more… they are all here, sunning themselves and allowing curious tourists an up-close and unforgettable visit.
